4 Interesting Bedside Ideas

When we moved into our new apartment and I was thinking of how the bedroom should be, bedside table was at the top on my mind. I really like beautiful but extremely productive bedside arrangements where I have everything I need at night. Which are a little skincare products like my lip balms, hand cream and eye patches. I also need some water and the book that I am reading. So while planning I went through all sort of ideas, considering the space available was extremely limited, ideas like a hanging desk to a bedside shelf appealed to me endlessly. I ended with a shelf on one side and a study table being used as a bedside, but there were several other ideas that looked so cool, that I have ear-marked them for future.

My Favorite Work Nooks

Though I work from home, I make sure that I am at my desk while doing so. Not only does that help me focus and be productive but also be more organized. I know where to reach for my pin up board where I stick cutouts for inspiration and my magazines are around, my stationery is organized in one corner and so is the laptop. Its like giving yourself a little corner. I would love a study room but this is the best I could do, given that I also want to live where I do. Its all about prioritizing, right!

When it comes to my desk I love some extra TLC sometimes. Some flowers on some days, while pinning up motivational thoughts on the other does the trick. Today I have been considering making more changes into this daily routine, and looking for some inspiration from the world wide web.

How To Create Wall Collage?

I love eclectic walls. A mix of different things that make some meaning. Some reason for all of them to come together. As a married couple and been so for 4 years, we like to have the memories of these 4 years in front of us, right in our bedroom. Because that space is meant just for us. Of course we have Margo on the team now, but I still haven't been able to print out his pictures. You'll see that update soon.

Since our bedroom is pretty small, I have taken up just 1 wall for my so called 'memory-board'. We have pictures, from life & travel & souvenirs that we have got back from there, in fact we also have a little storage there, the wall of hats as our tiny apartment couldn't accommodate them anywhere else!

Our souvenirs are as diverse as you could imagine. We have this coral washed ashore in Puerto Rico, A dream catcher which suddenly caught our eye while driving down to Utah from Arizona, 2 turbans that we bought in Rajasthan, just for fun, a vintage necklace I once randomly bought (& never wore) in NY and a Ganpati (Indian elephant god) wall hanging we got as a gift on our wedding. Each of these items have memories if not stories!

I feel its important to have these, in the bedroom for a couple. Its just sometimes nice to just lie down on the bed and start talking about old sweet memories.

As for our living room, the idea was little different. We like to entertain and hence have kept the layout open. As for the walls, the purpose is more practical. Its again the main wall where the have focused. Its less cluttered and the key wall has a mirror - makes the room more open, a big clock - well, to see the time and 2 frames. You will see a lot of plants around too

I would say that your home is a complete reflection of yourself. and who ever walks in expects that as well as you as a household want to project that as well. So that is all that counts.

My Tryst With Flowers

I like to have flowers around me. Bright beautiful smelling roses are the best things to have closeby. I do take a bit of a bold plunge sometimes and mix it up with strong smelling fruits. Yesterday I picked up some yellow roses and added them to a bowl of apples. And the result was a beautifully delicious smelling concoction!

Flowers can lighten up any space. The beautiful colors, fragrance and just the mere presence of flowers can cheer you up. You can source flowers in many ways. A local store might just be the place or your garden. It might be a nice idea to plant flowering plants in the house, by the window. And if you do not have the time to water and care for them, then you can also go to Flower Delivery By BloomNation and order a Bouquet for yourself. BloomNation supports communities by partnering with independent florists and showcasing their hand-crafted flower arrangements. All you have to do is to enter you zip code and they will show you all the options close to your home.

Well thats a start of a good thoughts there! Have a happy Weekend Everyone!!

Why have I been missing?

In case you guys were wondering why I have been missing, so ...errr ... inconspicuously if I may add, then that's because I was moving apartments. And not only was that just a move, but, we now own our new apartment. After a chaotic Mortgage company experience, it was also our good fortune to meet some great people in the process. Overall, its all over now, and the good things begins. I will post pictures in the coming days.

We have been busy fixing things, buying furnitures, researching and most importantly painting. Why is it important? because we are doing it all by ourselves. So stay plugged in for more!

However, I wanted to share some stunning apartment pictures that I wanted to share with you. Let me know if you like them too!!

xoxo

The bedroom you were looking for!

When I start cleaning my bedroom, I first stand at the door, look at the room and think ‘where do I start?’ This write up, I am hoping will not just help you but also help me go about cleaning the bedroom in a more organized manner. And also, it’s something I have tried and I know it works.
1. Clean & Clutter less – Clean up clutter as much as possible. The impact is huge. Clean up the floor, keep the bed uncluttered. It’s not possible to do it every day though, but even if you do it once a week, it’s great.

-o- Start with the bed – Clear up if you have clutter under your bed. You don’t have to do this every day, but just once. And after that, you just need to remember to not put anything there. You’ll appreciate the circulation of air. Why not add a couple of days during the week in the calendar and share the job with your partner?

-o- Clean the floor – probably just once a week, but do it. The floor can end up having a lot of dust and germs. If you are allergic to pollens or dust then you know what I am talking about. Divide it with your partner or the other grownups in your family and then divide the house amongst you. We divide the living room and the bedroom between Me and M. I do the living room while he does bedroom. If you don’t keep too many things on the floor, then you would notice how fast and smooth this can be. Invest in a couple of brooms and vacuum cleaners and it could actually be fun.

-o- Clear up your side tables – I don’t know if this happens with you, but I usually tend to keep my side table full. My lamp, lip balm, hand cream, photo frame, a bottle of water, a scented candle and this list is never-ending. And my suggestion is not to remove them all. Instead keep a tray. That way it will be easier to clean. If possible, keep a couple of trays and divide and conquer. However, if you can cut down, then that will be great!

2. Keep flowers, not plants – Believe it or not flowers are great for bedroom.  Don’t keep them next to your bed though. Keep them at a desk or another cupboard or convenient place in the room. The flowers tend to undergo a slow process of rotting, and one should not be inhaling it while sleeping. As for plants, it’s what we learnt in school that they release carbon dioxide during the dark hours, which is not good for inhalation.

3. Have a study table – Believe me, it’s important! You can make a beautiful pin up board right above and a slate board too. It just not adds aesthetic value but is also useful. You might be using your laptop while sitting on your couch or your bed right now, but doctors say that it’s not the most advisable thing to do. One should sit at a table of right height and use a chair with arm rest and use that laptop. Also, it can be a great place to store all your magazines and letters. Some of those letters are important and you don’t want them lying open in your living room, would you?

4. Keep Scented candles – The most inexpensive of the lot. It can be very romantic too. I remember, when we were hit by Sandy, we didn’t have electricity for a couple of days. Me an M would light up scented candles by our bedsides and have a drink. It was quite a good time. I would however recommend some music and AC / heater too during the normal circumstances. It can be a very relaxing experience.

5. Have 2 kinds of drapes – Have 2 layer of drapes. A light cotton one and a heavy one. The light cotton one will allow you to let the light enter when you need it and the heavy ones will let you sleep till late when you want to.

There are many more things that one can do with the bedroom. One spends a lot of time there, and the most important thing to remember in the bedroom is that one should be able to relax and have a great night sleep, if nothing else. Too much clutter makes sleep difficult according to some sources and I am sure you have felt that too. A clean bedroom gives that feeling of lightness and relaxation.

Hope you found this useful. Let me know your feedback.
